Can technology level the playing field for disability in the workplace?

This session will explore how technology is currently, and will increasingly, remove barriers of disability inequality in the workplace.

This session is aimed at:

  • Organisational decision-makers
  • HR and Recruitment Professionals
  • Anyone with an interest in assistive technology in the workplace.

Liberty Bligh from DWP will talk about how current tech can be used to enable adjustments for a vast range of disabilities and long term health conditions. She will explain the new Tech Fund announced by the UK Government to support disabled people and their employers.

Liberty will highlight how there is more tech than many people realise and that there is funding available for employers to purchase specialist equipment for disabled people on an individual basis through the Government’s Access to Work scheme.

Tech and support to get online is also helping reduce inequalities against some of the most vulnerable members of our society and those that face extraordinary challenges. Peer Digital Champions combine Entry level tech, Online Basics learning alongside shared lived experiences to empower these groups to access information, make informed choices, stay safe and be better off on average by £800 a year.

We hope to host some live and pre-recorded demonstrations of Assistive Technology from real people who use the technology at work.

The session will also look forward, at the technology currently in research and development. Let’s future gaze, and jump forward to 2030. Will future tech enables all of us to do more than the average human can now? Will everyone have tech-enabled super-powers? As artificial intelligence and robotics remove the elements of work that are currently reliant on physical and fallible human capabilities, is it likely that future careers will be more reliant upon our core human capabilities of creative thought and independent decision-making?

Can’t make it in person? Register to watch online and you will recieve a link so you can either watch live online, or watch-again later.

The session will take place at #hellodigital within An Lochran, 10 Inverness Campus. Accessible car parking is available to the rear of An Lòchran.

#hellodigital was launched by HIE with aim of supporting enterprises to make the most of digital opportunities in how they promote and operate their business.
