DATAFEST18 - CeeD Breakfast Briefing: Industrial Applications of Data Analytics and Machine-Learning
This Business Breakfast event will be held in partnership with Centre for Engineering Education & Development (CeeD) who have invited the Dr Gordon Morison, from Glasgow Calendonian University to Inverness.
Dr Gordon Morison will rapidly review three current projects that employ data analytics and/or machine learning in industry applications. These projects are focused on solutions for:
- Predictive maintenance of live equipment
- Visual inspection for structural maintenance
- Supply chain optimization using sensors and machine-learning
The aim of this talk will be to provide a general overview as to what is meant by the terms Data Analytics and Machine Learning, and to provide a number of case studies showing how information can be extracted, processed, visualized and acted upon.
The first case study will detail information extraction and classification using Machine Learning for sensor data for Predictive Maintenance applications. Enabling a 'fix it before it's broken' regime.
The second will detail the application of Machine Learning and visual inspection for Structural Monitoring.
Finally the last case study will detail the combination of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and Machine-Learning within the Supply Chain.
Dr Gordon Morison received a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and PhD in Signal and Image Processing from the University of Strathclyde. He has held industrial positions in embedded software and post-doctoral positions in Communications at the University of Strathclyde and in Neuroscience at the University of Glasgow. Currently he is the Assistant Head of Department in Audio and Electronics in the Department of Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University. His research interests are in Computer Vision, Signal/Image Processing and Machine Learning.
Tea, Coffee and breakfast roll will be available from 8 am. Talks and discussion from 8:30-9:30
The breakfast is sponsored by Centre for Engineering Education & Development (CeeD) and the event is open to all.
This event will take place at #hellodigital within An Lochran, 10 Inverness Campus. Accessible car parking is available to the rear of An Lòchran. Signposting delineates parking for staff and visitors to each key partner in the building.
